the idea

Writers Commons is a vessel for fiction and essay, poetry and journal notes.  I’ve been curious to see if they can all live together in harmony outside the writer’s room. Inspired by the Wildbranch Writers Workshop in the summer 2009, the work goes back decades, some of it; I let it sit a while.  With new work coming on, there’s a revival afoot; forever restless, carrying its own weight.J. Open Space is a landscape to be preserved
– I begin this section with excerpts from books and journals I need to keep close, passages and images I can’t seem to live without.

Day for Night is the working ranch
– a place for vignettes torn from longer pieces in the works so as to give them air, see if they can stand on their own.

Porch Blog is a conversation
– there’s always a chair open for writers, artists and renegades who have found their way to the ranch and whose work needs to be shared.  that was the idea at the start.  what came of it was something different.  I found myself writing about DG, on the porch on the road crossing over from the real into fiction and back again.

Last Barn Standing is the sanctuary
– as I open up the pages from a long-buried collection of short stories, poems + essay, I look for the voice again.   “Found it!  Here it is,”

Who I Be asks the question, “How much do you need to know about me?”
